Solar impulse completes its first leg landing in Muscat!

Muscat made International headlines last night as a solar airplane (Solar Impulse 2) landed here to complete its first leg on a record breaking first ever round the world trip on a solar plane.

The plane started its journey in Abu Dhabi and landed 12 hours later (it is a slow plane) in Muscat. The plane plans to travel the whole world, including legs across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, a huge feat if successful. The route has been planned meticulously according to flight stops, refuel needs and climate conditions.

With the price of solar panels having fallen by 70% in the past few years, it is predicted by many that solar power could be the main form of global energy by 2050, replacing our dwindling fossil fuel supplies. To read more about this exciting journey, go to the link below. Thank you to Anwesha in Grade 11 for drawing my attention to this interesting and extremely relevant article! Think about that recent essay Grade 11 "Examine the changing importance of alternative energies over time".
